Background

Under the direction of Executive Director Judith D. Kydon, Saint Dominic’s Home is a 132-year-old $50 million nonprofit social welfare services agency headquartered in Blauvelt, N.Y.

The agency’s 800-plus employees provide compassionate care in a number of diverse services and programs to more than 2,300 individuals, many of whom are children, and families of all backgrounds that are developmentally disabled, socially disadvantaged and, or, vocationally challenged in New York City (specifically the Bronx) and the Lower Hudson Valley (Rockland and Orange Counties). 

Saint Dominic’s Home is a Catholic agency originally founded in 1878 by Mother Mary Ann Sammon and the Dominican Sisters as a home for immigrant children abandoned on the streets of New York City.

Today, while no longer operating as a home, Saint Dominic’s Home continues the mission of its founder to compassionately care for those most in need regardless of race, religion or ethnicity and better their lives.
The agency provides more than 40 programs including foster boarding home, adoption, special needs education, pre-school therapeutic education, community based services and community residences for adults with mental illness or developmental and intellectual disabilities.

Saint Dominic’s Home programs and services are funded by and are approved by one or more accrediting agencies: The New York City Department of Education, the New York City Administration for Children’s Services, the New York City Department of Health,  the New York State Department of Education, the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, the New York State Department of Mental Health, the New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, and the New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services.
